I would like to build it in a steel storage container (conex box.) how would you attach it to the inside walls or could it be free standing?. Free Standing Lumber Rack. We like our vertical plywood rack, standing on the 4 foot end. All you need is a few 2×4's, 2×6's, 3/4 plwood, glue, and screws! I wasn't willing to give up inside shop space for it so i decided to very quickly fab together an outdoor lumber rack. This lumber rack is made entire from 2×4 lumber and 3/4″ shop grade plywood. Build a freestanding material rack.
Lumber racks, also known as plywood storage racks or pipe rack is a popular heavy duty storage rack system designed to hold and store these cantilever lumber racks make accessing materials much easier because there is nothing in the front of the rack to restrict accessing the stored materials.
